PALM SUNDAY

Sympathy of the Congregation is extended to Bill Faulkes and family on the death of his mother, Carol Faulkes on March 11.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel for long-time member and mother of Patty Bivens, Lorraine Eberbaugh, on Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m.  Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Ruffner Room. Lorraine loved potatoes and bread. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you may donate potatoes and bread to Manna Meal. You may bring them to the memorial service or to the church office the following week.

Next Week’s Sermon is “THE PARABLES OF JESUS: Lost and Found”, by Bill McCoy.

Easter Egg Celebration, today, from 2-4 p.m., for all ages in the Recreation Room. Join us for Easter crafts, egg dyeing, Easter egg hunt, fun games, and more!  For more information, contact Janet Chambers.

Lay Academy will not meet today, Palm Sunday, nor on Sunday March 27, Easter Sunday.  The next Class will be on Sunday, April 3, 5:30 p.m., in Room 201 in the Activity Building, when Dr. Newberg’s lecture topic will be “The Myth-Making Brain.”  We hope to see everyone then for more learning.  May your holidays be appropriately Holy. Soli Deo Gloria!

Agape Feast: Join us in the Dining Room for our annual Agape Feast on Easter Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. during the Sunday school hour. Bring your favorite finger foods/appetizers to share potluck-style (drinks are provided) and enjoy fellowshipping with your church family and guests before we celebrate our Lord’s Resurrection during our glorious Easter worship service.

Lenten Memorials:  Envelopes are in the pew racks for contributions to our Worship Memorial Fund in honor or memory of loved ones. Names will be printed in a special insert for the Easter worship bulletins. The deadline for submission is today, March 20. These Lenten Memorials are given to enrich worship at the church.

The Cents-Ability Offering is Received Today:  YOUR giving is making an IMPACT. The generous giving of First Presby congregation is making a dramatic impact on the lives of those who struggle to pay for food.  In 2015, our church gave $8,268.34 to the Cents-Ability Offering.  Provided is a letter from Ruth Farrell, Coordinator of the Presbyterian Hunger Program:  “Dear members of First Presbyterian Church, We know you probably already received the official receipt for your recent gifts to the Presbyterian Hunger Program totaling $509.49 in December.  Even so, we in the Hunger Program saw that you had given and wanted to say thank you.  Gifts like yours make a difference in lives around the world, helping families feed themselves and communities thrive.  They also support the work inspired by Proverbs 31:8-9, which calls us to speak up for those who cannot and defend the rights of the poor and needy.  Thank you for joining us in the mission of alleviating hunger and eliminating its root causes.  Visit us at pcusa.org/hunger if you’d like to learn more about how your gifts are helping in the U.S. and around the world.  With a grateful heart, Ruth.”  Of the total amount given to the Cents-Ability Offering in 2015, ½ goes to the Presbytery to provide hunger relief in our state, ¼ goes to the General Assembly to provide hunger relief in our world, and ¼ goes to the Covenant House Food Pantry to provide local hunger relief.  Your “cents” when all added together is AMAZING.

Food Pantry Needs: Canned Fruit and Canned Meals (beef stew, etc)

Restroom Updates: The men’s restroom on the first floor of the Education Building has been completely remodeled, as well as, both the men and women’s restrooms on the second floor  in the Activity Building.  Check them out! Also be aware to not turn off the light when leaving these new restrooms, as they have automatic  timed turn off switches.

One Great Hour of Sharing Offering is Received Next Sunday, March 27: SO MUCH ACCOMPLISHED, STILL SO MUCH TO DO:  Around the world, people lack access to food, clean water, sanitation, education, and opportunity.  Each gift to One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) serves to help change the lives of people in these challenging situations.  This Offering provides us a way to share God’s love with our neighbors in need.  One Great Hour of Sharing makes a difference in the world through: Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, (which works within communities as they recover and find hope after the devastation of natural or human-caused disasters), Presbyterian Hunger Program, (which takes action to alleviate hunger and its systemic causes, and helps create access to healthy food for entire communities), and Self-Development of People, (which partners with people and communities with tools for development and education to alleviate poverty, oppression, and injustice).  Your giving accomplishes so much!  Please give generously as there is still so much to do.

Knitters/Crocheters: Sharpen your knitting needles and crochet hooks!  Please join a group of knitters and crocheters on Tuesday, March 22, 6 p.m. in  Room E406, Education Building, when we will decide about future meetings and projects, such as hats for premies, prayer shawls and scarves for the homeless.  If you are interested but can’t make this meeting, contact Laura Ceperley, lceperley@yahoo.com for more information.

Church Tour: Week in and week out, the halls of First Presby buzz with people. We all know where the sanctuary is or where the chapel is, but how well do we really know the buildings that we call our church home? We will be having a church tour for all members, new or old. Join us on April 10, at 9:15 a.m., in the Ruffner Room and embark on our journey from there! We hope to see you there and to learn more about our church together!

Copies of the Presbytery Digest for February 20, a summary of the actions taken at the last Presbytery meeting, can be found on the information table in the hallway. The Presbytery Digest is an important communication tool—one way the Presbytery tries to keep our congregation informed about the work of the larger Church.
