Souper Bowl Of Caring – Received Today: This afternoon millions of
Americans will tune in to the Super Bowl football game! There will be parties with a
abundant food, friendship and fellowship. At the same time, there will be people worrying about staying warm, finding shelter and a warm meal.  Please join the youth of First Presby as they demonstrate God’s love by loving their neighbors through the Souper Bowl of Caring.  It’s a simple, yet significant act of caring for others.  Our youth will be standing at sanctuary doors following worship to receive your financial donations. There will also be receptacles at the entrances to the sanctuary to receive your donations of soup and crackers. Please contribute what you can. Those who need help may not know that you cared, but God will. And our young people are developing hearts for giving that can last a lifetime. Please support their efforts

Lenten Growth Groups: Find a Lenten Growth Group that will inspire and encourage you on your faith journey. You may pick up a Lenten Growth Group brochure and sign up for a group either by filling out the registration form and placing it in the offering plate or sign a signup sheet on the table below the Lenten bulletin board in the hallway across from the information tables.

Ash Wednesday Service, February 10:  Everyone is invited to a light dinner at 6 p.m. followed by Ash Wednesday Vespers at 6:45 p.m. in the Chapel. There is no LOGOS, but children are encouraged to attend dinner and Ash Wednesday Services with their parents. (Use the tear-off form to make a reservation for dinner.)

Manna Meal Sandwich Making:  Thanks to the Elementary Sunday School Children (former Covenant Kids) and adults who made 200 sandwiches during the Sunday School Hour. The sandwiches, along with fruit, were delivered  to Manna Meal.

Lay Academy begins new study of “The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience” today in Room 201, Activity Building from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Dr. Andrew Newberg, Neurologist, explores how the human brain has evolved to support Religious or Spiritual experience.  How does Science help us better to know and understand God and to grow in our faith?  Bring a friend or neighbor to learn and participate in our questions and discussions.  Call the Church Office for more information 304 343-8961.

Adult Dinner Cost Increase: We have held the cost of adult church family dinners at $6 for the past 7 years, but with increased costs of food, utilities, and labor we are raising the price of adult dinners to $7. Effective date February 1. Children meals remain at $3 and the family maximum remains at $20. We hope you agree that a meal including entrée, sides, salad, dessert and beverage for $7 is still a very good value. Please join us for church family dinners each Wednesday at 6 p.m.!

Women’s Bible Study: The Women’s Outreach Bible Study group will meet on Fridays in the Ruffner Room from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Questions? Call Alyce Braun at 304-744-4448 or Lisa O’Connor at 304-342-6248.

Food Pantry Needs: Canned Meals such as Beef Stew

Passing The Peace: The cold and flu season is in full swing, please be aware that friends with depressed immune systems may welcome a greeting of a warm smile, a pat on the shoulder, etc., rather than a handshake or a hug.  Please be attentive as you share the loving hospitality of Christ’s peace with each other.

Katie Montoya, a law student at the University of Virginia School of Law, is participating in a program which gives Christian law students intensive training in apologetics, natural law, and a Christian approach to public policy. She is married and will give birth to her first child in April, so her husband, baby, and mother-in-law will all be moving to Charleston for this six-week period. She is trying to find furnished housing in Charleston that will accommodate the four of them. If you need help with any tasks around your house, please email Payne at youth@firstpresby.com with your contact information, or call the Church office.
