Welcome: We welcome Meghan M. Moses and Staunton T. Gorrell who joined our congregation on January 17.

A Congregational Meeting will be held this Sunday, immediately following the worship service, for the purpose of reviewing the Pastors’ Terms of Call and electing members to serve on the Congregational Nominating Committee.

All Children in grades one through five and their parents, are invited to join us in Preparation for Communion Class, which will be held this Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Dining Room. ALL CHILDREN GRADES ONE THROUGH FIVE ARE INVITED.

Announcing An All New FIRSTPRESBY.COM: Our church website is a brand new interactive site. In addition to events, calendars and sermons, you are now able to log in to a member site. Here you can contact other members in your classes or small groups, update your information, view the calendar, and you can set up on-line giving to the church. Check it out today!

Adult Dinner Cost Increase: We have held the cost of adult church family dinners at $6 for the past 7 years, but with increased costs of food, utilities, and labor we are raising the price of adult dinners to $7. Effective date February 1. Children meals remain at $3 and the family maximum remains at $20. We hope you agree that a meal including entrée, sides, salad, dessert and beverage for $7 is still a very good value. Please join us for church family dinners each Wednesday at 6 p.m.!

Women’s Bible Study: The Women’s Outreach Bible Study group will meet on Fridays in the Ruffner Room from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Questions? Call Alyce Braun at 304-744-4448 or Lisa O’Connor at 304-342-6248.

Lay Academy continues to study Science and Religion. We have studied 13.7 billion years of the evolution of the universe, or God’s creation. Now we turn to the Human Sciences to learn how our Creator works within us, our brains in particular. Dr. Andrew Newburg will present 24 DVD lectures on “The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience,” beginning Sunday, February 7, 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m, in Room 201, Activity Building. Dr. Newburg will report on many scientific studies that show how our brain has evolved to prepare us to meet God, get to know God, and partner with God every day. For more information, please contact the Church Office (304) 343-8961 or Bob Newman (304) 345-0225.

Passing The Peace: The cold and flu season is in full swing, please be aware that friends with depressed immune systems may welcome a greeting of a warm smile, a pat on the shoulder, etc., rather than a handshake or a hug. Please be attentive as you share the loving hospitality of Christ’s peace with each other.

Food Pantry Needs: Toilet Tissue and Canned Soups

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING – RECEIVED NEXT SUNDAY February 7: On Sunday February 7, millions of Americans will tune in to the Super Bowl football game! There will be parties with abundant food, friendship and fellowship. At the same time, there will be people worrying about staying warm, finding shelter and a warm meal.  Please join the youth of First Presby as they demonstrate God’s love by loving their neighbors through the Souper Bowl of Caring.  It’s a simple, yet significant act of caring for others.  Our youth will be standing at sanctuary doors following worship on Sunday, February 7 to receive your financial donations. There will also be receptacles at the entrances to the sanctuary to receive your donations of soup and crackers. Please contribute what you can. Those who need help may not know that you cared, but God will. And our young people are developing hearts for giving that can last a lifetime. Please support their efforts

Youth Group for all youth, from 6th-12th grades, is meeting in the Dining Room from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Sundays.

The Youth are looking to raise money for various different activities (Mission Trips, Retreats, Triennium, etc.). If you need help with any tasks around your house, please email Payne at youth@firstpresby.com with your contact information, or call the Church office. We are willing to shovel snow, spread mulch, or help with other tasks. All we ask for is a donation to help us reach our goals and expand the opportunities for our youth to attend these events.

Manna Meal Sandwich Making Next Sunday,February 7: The Elementary Sunday School Children (former Covenant Kids) will be making 200 sandwiches next Sunday during the Sunday School Hour. Adults are always welcome to help with this project and to help deliver the sandwiches and fruit to Manna Meals. Meet in the chapel at 9:15 a.m

Reminder! The Lay Academy is studying “The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience,” with lectures by Dr. Andrew Newberg (DVD). Meet with Sojourner’s Class, 9:15am on Sunday mornings, Education 411. Dr. Newberg reports on scientific studies that show how the evolution of the human brain prepares for us humans to meet God, get to know God, and become partners with God in our daily lives. Everyone welcome.

Watch as the Giving Tree “comes to life” with the giving of our children! Take time to stop in the Chapel to see how the Giving Tree is growing – growing mittens that is!  The Elementary Kids continue through the month of January and February to collect mittens or financial gifts to purchase mittens for children in our community.  The mittens are given to the Covenant House Drop-In center to distribute the mittens as needed.  The children can bring their mittens or financial offering to Sunday School (9:15 a.m. in the Chapel).  Giving Tree envelopes are available each Sunday in the Chapel.
