A second opportunity to share ideas will be following worship on June 12 in the dining room. We hope you can join us at one or both of these sessions as we prepare for our future ministry together.

Next Week’s Sermon will be given by Bill McCoy.

The Pentecost Offering is received Today: The Pentecost Offering is all about helping people begin life with a strong start. A solid foundation formed from childhood through young adulthood enables individuals to weather life’s storms and build on life’s opportunities.  As was promised on the day of Pentecost, our sons and our daughters are prophesying, and we are hearing their wisdom. The Presbyterian Youth Triennium is a venue where many youth find their voices of faith. More than 5,000 youth, to include 13 First Presby youth and 3 local Presbyterian staff and volunteers, will gather at Purdue University in July, and many will return to their congregations with a new understanding of faith and its relevance for their lives. It’s a five-day event whose impact on individuals can last a lifetime.  The Pentecost Offering also supports the Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program which promotes youth volunteerism within the U.S. and around the world.  This offering also supports the “Educate a Child, Transform the World” initiative which provides enrichment and supplies for children living in poverty in the U.S. Your Gifts to the Pentecost Offering make a tremendous impact on the spiritual life of youth.

Lay Academy continues to study RELIGION & SCIENCE, today in Room A-201, Activities Building, at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Andrew Newberg continues his course of study on “The Spiritual Brain: Science & Religious Experience.”  This week his topic is “Transmitters to God.” For more information, please call the Church Office, (304) 343-8961.

Presbyterian Women: The May Luncheon of Presbyterian Women will be at 12 noon on Thursday, May 19, in the dining room.  Deadline for reservations is May 16. Call your Circle leader, or the church office, 304-343-8961.  The Honorary Life Award will be presented followed by the Installation of the 2016-2017 officers.  ALL Presbyterian women are invited.

The Cents-Ability Offering is received next Sunday, May 22:  Cents-Ability originated in 1976 as “Two-Cents-A-Meal,” a project begun by Presbyterian Women to involve individuals and families in a corporate response to world hunger. Cents-Ability is a small first step in the battle against hunger and poverty. Together we can help local organizations help those who need it the most.

Presbyterian Coffee Project: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, raisins, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and during the week during church business hours.

Youth: The Youth Group will continue to meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays during the summer, even though LOGOS will end on April 6. We will also continue Sunday evening Youth Group throughout the summer.  Questions?  Contact Payne Warner.

Get Your Footprint – Help a Child in the WV Foster Care System Barefoot Sunday-June 5: This year’s Barefoot Sunday recipients are the children and youth who reside at the Children’s Home Society of the Kanawha Valley and Davis-Stuart, Inc. in Lewisburg. Both of these organizations provide shelter care, foster care, and life skills training for children and adolescents in need. Most of these children enter the state care system with very few belongings, usually carried in a brown bag. These children typically come from impoverished homes and many have never had the luxury of a new pair of shoes. Select from the bulletin board in the main hallway a “footprint” with the shoe size and color preference. child.  Or you may choose to make a financial contribution, and select a “brown bag” from the bulletin board which  will be used to buy  shoes for any footprint  not selected or to be given to WVCHS or Davis, Stuart, Inc. On June 5, you will bring your new shoes or financial contribution, to the front of the sanctuary during the offertory time in the worship service. The children that are in the foster care system do not have the option to ask their parents for a new pair of shoes, not even on special occasions. Please be a part of providing something special for these children. As always, feel free to come to church barefooted on Barefoot Sunday.

Work and Build Day- Save the Date- June 18: Dust off your hammers and saws and come help those in need of basic home repairs.  We will partner with WV Ministry of Advocacy and Workcamps, Inc, (WVMAW) for our first workday this year on Saturday, June 18, to do some hands-on work.  The mission of WVMAW is: “to offer the opportunity for discipleship by partnering with those in need whose lives have been devastated by natural disasters or by the disaster of poverty in areas of West Virginia.  Work hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (approx.).  We are looking for a team of 8-10 people to help with home repairs in the St. Albans area.  This is a great opportunity for friends, Sunday School members, small group studies, or individuals to gather together for a time of fun and fellowship  while helping a family in need.  To learn more or volunteer please contact Sue Webster at sue@firstpresby.com or 304-343-8961, Extension 139.

Second Hour Bible Study: After Time with Young Disciples and the Passing of the Peace, all children in grades 1-5 are invited to join us for Bible Study in Room E-113. Look for Janet Chambers. She will walk the children to their classroom. If this is your child’s first time visiting Second Hour Bible Study, please accompany them to the room so that you can sign them in and get acquainted with our teachers.
