Lay Academy will meet today at 5:30 p.m., in Room A201 in the Activities building. Dr. Andrew Newberg’s lecture is “Stimulated States and the Religious Experience.” He explores research on the use of drugs such as LSD, Peyote, and even Cocaine, and how they support or inhibit religious/spiritual experience.  Also he explores the question “What is real or not real?”  Everyone welcome.  For more information, please contact the Church Office, (304) 343-8961.

The Cents-Ability Offering is received today: Cents-Ability originated in 1976 as “Two-Cents-A-Meal,” a project begun by Presbyterian Women to involve individuals and families in a corporate response to world hunger. Together we can help local organizations help those who need it the most.

Get Your Footprint – Help a Child in the WV Foster Care System Barefoot Sunday-June 5: This year’s Barefoot Sunday recipients are the children and youth who reside at the Children’s Home Society of the Kanawha Valley and Davis-Stuart, Inc. in Lewisburg. Both of these organizations provide shelter. Select from the bulletin board in the main hallway a “footprint” with the shoe size and color preference.   Or you may choose to make a financial contribution, and select a “brown bag” from the bulletin board which  will be used to buy  shoes for any footprint  not selected or to be given to WVCHS or Davis, Stuart, Inc. The children that are in the foster care system do not have the option to ask their parents for a new pair of shoes, not even on special occasions. Please be a part of providing something special for these children. As always, feel free to come to church barefooted on Barefoot Sunday.

Presbyterian Coffee Project: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, raisins, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and during the week during church business hours.

Mark Your Calendar: First Presby will join with several other churches for Vacation Bible School, scheduled to be held in the Activities Building, Monday, June 6 – Thursday, June 9.

Thank You: The total giving for the Pentecost Offering last Sunday was $1,059.55.

Open Dates for Flowers: If you would like to place flowers in the Sanctuary in memory or honor of a loved one, Sunday, May 29, is an open date. Please call the church office, 304-343-8961.

Food Pantry Needs: Canned Meats such as Tuna, Chicken & Salmon

Work and Build Day- Save the Date- June 18: Dust off your hammers and saws and come help those in need of basic home repairs.  We will partner with WV Ministry of Advocacy and Workcamps, Inc, (WVMAW) for our first workday this year on Saturday, June 18, to do some hands-on work.  The mission of WVMAW is: “to offer the opportunity for discipleship by partnering with those in need whose lives have been devastated by natural disasters or by the disaster of poverty in areas of West Virginia.  Work hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (approx.). To learn more or volunteer please contact Sue Webster at sue@firstpresby.com or 304-343-8961, Extension 139.

Youth are invited to sit together with Youth Director, Payne Warner, in the rear gallery during worship this morning.

Second Hour Bible Study: After Time with Young Disciples and the Passing of the Peace, all children in grades 1-5 are invited to join us for Bible Study in Room E-113. Look for Janet Chambers. She will walk the children to their classroom. If this is your child’s first time visiting Second Hour Bible Study, please accompany them to the room so that you can sign them in and get acquainted with our teachers.

Helping Hands: We had such a great presentation on our mission work last week! Now we are calling all those willing, to volunteer with us for VBS. As you know, we are mission based, so all works made here, are works for God. We’d love to have you! Contact Janet Chambers for  more information.

Stuffing Needed: We are continuing with our VBS theme of Intentional Acts of Kindness. Again this year, we are making teddy bears for the Kanawha Valley Ambulance Authority to hand out to children on their calls out. We need donations of bags of stuffing for the bears. You can take your donation to the front office or give it to Janet Chambers or Sue Webster. Thank you for helping our children grow as they learn to help others.

Bells and Bars Music Academy will take place Tuesday-Friday, May 31- June 3 and Sunday morning, June 5, 2016.  All children currently in Kindergarten and older and youth in middle or high school are invited to participate.  We will learn to play chimes, handbells, Orff instruments and drums. Parts will be written for each participant according to ability and experience, and we will lead worship on Barefoot Sunday, June 5. See Mary Odin after worship this morning or email her at modin@firstpresby.com as soon as you know you plan to come.  You may register online at our church website, or fill out one of the registration forms on the table in the hallway.

Strategic Planning Meeting: You are invited to a gathering on Sunday, June 12, after worship in the dining room. Coffee and tea will be available. Reservations are not needed. This is an opportunity to share ideas related to the recent church wide survey. Child care will be available. Please let us know by June 8, if you will need child care by phoning the church office at 304-343-8961. We hope you can join us as we prepare for our future ministry together.
