Use the QR code card in your pew rack to go directly to our giving page. God loves a Cheerful Giver.

Join the Family Choir next Sunday, July 9 and the following Sunday, July 16! On Family Choir Sundays, we meet in the Choir Room at 9:30 a.m. to learn the anthem for 10:30 a.m. worship.  We’re a different group each time, determined by the people who are in town on a given Sunday.  Come sing a new song with us!  All ages are welcome.

More about the Music: Below is an excerpt from “Glory to God: A Companion” about this morning’s Hymn of Praise, “Men of Faith, Rise up and Sing”: “This praise and worship song relies on a biblical foundation, just as older hymns do.  The first stanza, for example, is based on 2 Corinthians 12:9. In the refrain, the appeals to the four directions are an adaptation of the biblical expression for completeness (Psalm 107:2-3; Luke 13:29). The title ‘Lord of heaven and earth’ is Christ’s way of referring to God, so by extension it also applies to Christ (Matthew 11:25//Luke 10:21).  The address to women in the second stanza is derived from the assurance that God heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3).  Even the arresting image of the church in stanza 3, as a bird with broken wings, involves a kind of biblical and theological shorthand.  It starts with the familiar image of the Holy Spirit as dove, then incorporates the gift of the Holy Spirit to the church at Pentecost and in its congoing life (Acts 9:31).  When the church imperfectly embodies the Spirit, it becomes like a damaged or impaired dove.”  For more tidbits about our music and hymn texts, visit a church copy of “Glory to God: A Companion” by Reverend Carl P. Daw, Jr. M.A., M.Div., Ph.D in our church library, or look through the copy on the piano at the front of the sanctuary after worship.

Traveling this Summer? Take a First Presby “Greeting Card” with you to drop into the offering plate of the church you visit on vacation. You will find these wallet-size blue cards inside the Friendship Pads, and on the “Bulletin” bulletin board in the hallway. Then bring home a worship bulletin, leave it in the church office (be sure to include your name!), and we’ll “map” you on the bulletin board in the hallway. Soon we’ll be connected through worship to brothers and sisters all over the world!

Walking Community! Join us for a weekly walk on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. We meet in the parking lot by the activities building for a one hour walk and time of fellowship. If the weather is good we walk outside, and if the weather is not so good, we walk in the Activities Building. This is a great way to jump start your week with some exercise and time for reflection. But we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever. Micah 4:5.

First Presby Poetry Nights continues Wednesday, July 5, 5:30-7:00 p.m., in Room 203 in the Activities Building. Do you love poetry? Do you compose your own? Do you have poetry that you’d like to share? “First Presby Poetry Nights” are for you. Let your individuality flow through the tip of your pen as the river flows into the ocean. Let your heart pour out as the first storm of summer. Let your mind grow as the flowers, evolving through their phases. Let your soul soar as the eagle through the sky.  Free and open to the public. For more information, please call the church office, 304-343-8961.

Live on the Levee Tailgate: Please join us for a tailgate in the church parking lot prior to Live on the Levee on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. We will begin gathering after 5:00 p.m. and food will be served around 5:45 p.m. This week Fellowship & Recreation will provide hot dogs, chips, cookies, water, and lemonade. If you want to bring anything to throw on the grill or share with the group please do so. This is a tailgate so bring a chair and join us. We will have a corn hole set and ladder ball for activities.
