Sympathy of the Congregation is extended to Becky Smith and family on the death of her mother, Dorothy Adele Ritchie, on June 20, in Lancaster, Pa.
Many Ways to Support our Ministries: In addition to traditional cash and checks in the offering plate, you can give on our website firstpresby.com via your computer or smart phone, through our mobile app “Church Life” (you must first set up a user profile on our website to use the Church Life app.) or by texting 73256 and typing “firstpresby” in the message line. Use the QR code card in your pew rack to go directly to our giving page. God loves a Cheerful Giver.
The Cents-Ability Offering is received Today: Summertime can be a very difficult time of year for families who struggle with having enough food. Children who usually receive their breakfast and lunch meals at school are now home and the increased demand for food can be a tremendous burden on a family. Please keep this thought in mind as you prayerfully consider what you will give to the Cents-Ability Offering next Sunday and throughout the summer months.
Tasty Tuesday Thank You! Wow – What a night we had for our first Tasty Tuesday of the summer season. Your donations of food, finances and friendly service made it possible for First Presby to feed approximately 225 people. Those from the community who came were appreciative of the wonderful dinner, fun and upbeat music and hospitality. Our church members seemed to enjoy their time of fellowship and opportunity to extend the love of Christ to many in need. Thank You! Our next Tasty Tuesday is set for July 18 – plan to be a part of this wonderful outreach opportunity!
The Preschool Program is now accepting applications for preschool and kindergarten teachers. An early elementary degree and/or experience in a kindergarten classroom is desired. Call, text or email information to the Preschool office 304-419-3071 or send information to preschool@firstpresby.com. EOE
Family Choir: This morning, we welcome the Family Choir to worship leadership. On Family Choir Sundays, we meet in the Choir Room at 9:30 a.m. to prepare the anthem for the day. We’re a different choir each time, determined by the people who are in town each Sunday we sing. After today, you’ll have two more opportunities to sing in the Family Choir: July 9 and July 16. Mark your calendars and plan to join us. All ages are welcome.
First Presby Poetry Nights continues Wednesday, June 28, 5:30-7:00 p.m., in Room 203 in the Activitiies Building. Do you love poetry? Do you compose your own? Do you have poetry that you’d like to share? “First Presby Poetry Nights” are for you. Let your individuality flow through the tip of your pen as the river flows into the ocean. Let your heart pour out as the first storm of summer. Let your mind grow as the flowers, evolving through their phases. Let your soul soar as the eagle through the sky. Free and open to the public. For more information, please call the church office, 304-343-8961.
This Week’s Food Pantry Needs: Cereal and Peanut Butter
More About the Music: Below is an excerpt from “Glory to God: A Companion” about this morning’s prayer response, “I Love You, Lord”: “This simple song of adoration was written when the author’s husband was attending Central Oregon Community College and was away from home all day. She was left in their mobile home beside a highway to tend to their daughter by herself :”With no friends, money, church home, or driver’s license, the days I spent with our one-year-old seemed endless. My time with the Lord was not only my “life-line”-it was one of my rare opportunities to talk with someone “older”! One extra-lonely morning I found myself praying, “Lord, I want to worship you.I’m just so empty inside. Please give me something to sing that you would enjoy hearing.” As I picked up my guitar, words and music came effortlessly.” A pastor friend who heard the song a little while later took it to a national church convention in California, from which it spread to many churches and is now known around the world.” For more tidbits about our music and hymn texts, visit a church copy of “Glory to God: A Companion” by Reverend Carl P. Daw, Jr. M.A., M.Div., Ph.D in our church library, or look through the copy on the piano at the front of the sanctuary after worship.
Please Pray for the FPC Lyres Club as we minister in music to the residents of Oak Ridge Nursing Care Center this Tuesday evening, June 27. Gig Sheet 105 has been e-mailed to all harp players.
Manna Meal Sandwich Making: The Elementary School Children and adult helpers will meet in the dining room next Sunday, July 2, to make 300 sandwiches and, along with fruit, deliver to Manna Meal.
Traveling this Summer? Take a First Presby “Greeting Card” with you to drop into the offering plate of the church you visit on vacation. You will find these wallet-size blue cards inside the Friendship Pads, and on the “Bulletin” bulletin board in the hallway. Then bring home a worship bulletin, leave it in the church office (be sure to include your name!), and we’ll “map” you on the bulletin board in the hallway. Soon we’ll be connected through worship to brothers and sisters all over the world!
Presbyterian Coffee Project: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, raisins, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and the week-days during church business hours.
Ruffner Room Refreshments: Please join us in the Ruffner Room following the worship service for a time of Fellowship and Refreshments. We will have lemonade, water, and coffee. What should be done then, my friends? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up. 1 Corinthians 14:26.
Walking Community! Join us for a weekly walk on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. We meet in the parking lot by the activities building for a one hour walk and time of fellowship. If the weather is good we walk outside, and if it is poor we walk in the Activities Building. This is a great way to jump start your week with some exercise and time for reflection. But we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever. Micah 4:5.
Trash Bags: Many thanks to all who have contributed trash bags in the past. With the increased use of the church buildings for meetings, our supply of trash bags needs to be replenished. Any extra you can donate to the church would be much appreciated. Please leave in the church office.
“Art Camps with Janet Chambers” began last week with 16 delightful artists, ranging from 4 year olds to 5th graders. Paper mache fish were created the first day. The second day was an exciting field trip to explore the Huntington Museum of Art. The day also included a nature trail hike, lunch, and a take-home frog art project. The next days were spent drawing and painting on canvas! We were blessed with many opportunities to see God all around us in our talented and art-filled world. Thank you Vannessa for assisting with the children. Thank you Mary Odin and Doug Jenkins for your beautiful blessing. And a BIG thanks to Eddie Baker for driving us on the bus to the museum! It was a fantastic week, I would like to thank the parents for letting me share my gift of art with your little ones. Thanks be to God.
