Welcome: We welcome Rev. Dr. Stanley Ott to our pulpit this morning. Dr. Ott is a Presbyterian minister with over thirty years of knowledge of the hard work and challenges that lead to the blessings of being a transformational congregation that moves to new vitality.

Second Hour Bible Study: After Time with Young Disciples and the Passing of the Peace, all children in grades 1-5 are invited to join us for Bible Study in room E-113. Look for Janet Chambers. She will walk the children to their classroom. If this is your child’s first time visiting Second Hour Bible Study, please accompany them to the room so that you can sign them in and get acquainted with our teachers.

Presbyterian Women: The April Luncheon of Presbyterian Women will be at 12 noon on Thursday, April 21 in the dining room. Reservations are due by 4 p.m. on Monday,  April 18.  Call your Circle leader, or the church office, 304-343-8961.  This will be a Potluck Luncheon honoring the First Presby Staff.  ALL Presbyterian women are invited.

The Cents-Ability Offering is Received Next Sunday: The Bishop of Assisi once said to St. Francis, “I think your life is too hard, too rough. You don’t possess anything in this world.”  Francis replies, “My Lord, if we had possessions, we would need weapons to defend them.”  The Bible tells us not to store up treasures that are perishable, but to store up treasures that cannot rot or be stolen.  The people in Jesus’ day understood this heavenly treasure to mean caring for the needy.   What kind of treasures are you storing up?  Are you willing to give a bit of your treasure to the Cents-Ability Offering?  Prayerfully consider how you might be wiling to give.

Fun & Fellowship Friday: Looking for a fun way to share fun and fellowship while caring for our neighbors? Be a part of this month’s which will be take place next Saturday, April 23. We are making, delivering and serving dinner for the Sojourner’s Shelter. We will meet in the church kitchen at 3 p.m. to cook, and dinner will be served between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Sojourners. It is also game night! Remember to bring a friend! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in this hands-on outreach opportunity!

Lay Academy continues to study SCIENCE AND RELIGION, using the series ,”The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience.” Dr. Andrew Newberg’s lecture today, is “The Biology of Spiritual Practices” (DVD). More and more scientific studies confirm connection between spiritual experiences (Love, Prayer, Ethical Behavior, etc.) and biological processes in the brain and throughout the human body.  Better biological health means better Religious experience, and vice versa.
