Announcing An All New FIRSTPRESBY.COM: Our church website is a brand new interactive site. In addition to events, calendars and  sermons, you are now able to log in to a member site.  Here you can contact other members in your classes or small groups, update your information, view the calendar, and you can set up on-line giving to the church. Check it out today!

A Congregational Meeting will be held today, immediately following the worship service, for the purpose of reviewing the Pastors’ Terms of Call and electing members to serve on the Congregational Nominating Committee.

The Cents-Ability Offering is received today. During these frigid days and the cold months of winter, our thoughts turn to those who are homeless.  We cringe when we see a homeless person on a cold snowy night and pray that they have somewhere to go for shelter.  We also hope that the person has a way of getting a warm meal, but the truth is that many homeless people live on cans of cold food.  Did you know that the Covenant House Food Pantry provides a can opener to people who are homeless and have no way of opening a can of food.  Cents-Ability originated in 1976 as “Two-Cents-A-Meal,” a project begun by Presbyterian Women to involve individuals and families in a corporate response to world hunger. Cents-Ability is a small first step in the battle against hunger and poverty. Together we can help local organizations help those who need it the most.

All Children in grades one through five and their parents, are invited to join us in Preparation for Communion Class. This class is scheduled for January 31 at 2 p.m. in the Dining Room. We want to make sure all children have  the opportunity to learn about the holy sacrament of communion. ALL CHILDREN GRADES ONE THROUGH FIVE ARE INVITED.  Contact Janet Chambers for additional information.

Passing The Peace: The cold and flu season is in full swing, please be aware that friends with depressed immune systems may welcome a greeting of a warm smile, a pat on the shoulder, etc., rather than a handshake or a hug.  Please be attentive as you share the loving hospitality of Christ’s peace with each other.

Youth Group for all youth, from 6th-12th grades, is meeting in the Dining Room from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Sundays.

The Youth are looking to raise money for various different activities (Mission Trips, Retreats, Triennium, etc.). If you need help with any tasks around your house, please email Payne at youth@firstpresby.com with your contact information, or call the Church office. We are willing to shovel snow, spread mulch, or help with other tasks. All we ask for is a donation to help us reach our goals and expand the opportunities for our youth to attend these events

Food Pantry Needs: Peanut Butter and Cereal

The 3rd-5th grade LOGOS class voted to make care kits for our mission project.  The care kits will be given to people who are homeless.  The kinds of items we would like to put in the kits are water bottle, gloves, breakfast bar (such as Nutrigrain), socks, chapstick and hand lotion. Please drop off items in the church office. Thank you so much for your help in this important mission project. If you have any questions, please call Janet Chambers.

Offering Envelopes for those who requested them can be picked up on Sunday mornings on the table near the church office.  They can also be picked up in the office during regular church office hours. Call the church office if you have questions or wish to get a box.

Bad Weather Closure for Church Activities: If Kanawha County Schools are closed due to weather, all meetings and activities in the church are cancelled. If public schools close early due to weather, all meetings and activities in the church are cancelled for that evening.  Please do not come out if it puts you at risk for injury. Worship Services will always be held!

Giving Tree: We are continuing with our Giving Tree.  This months’ item is mittens. The Giving Tree items go towards helping the children in Ayacucho, Peru. Envelopes for this project are available in the  chapel or designate on your check  “Giving Tree”.
