Sunday Worship 10:30 a.m.

Worship is broadcast at 11:00 a.m. on WCHS-580AM

304-343-8961

Next Week’s Sermon is “Jonah: Life and Death” by Doug Jenkins. Sermon Lesson: Jonah 4:1-11.

Urgent Needs Offering is Received this Morning During Worship

Many Ways to Support our Ministries: In addition to traditional cash and checks in the offering plate, you can give on our website firstpresby.com via your computer or smart phone, through our mobile app “Church Life” (you must first set up a user profile on our website to use the Church Life app.) or by texting 73256 and typing “firstpresby” in the message line. Use the QR code card in your pew rack to go directly to our giving page. God loves a Cheerful Giver.

Family Choir: This morning, we welcome the Family Choir to worship leadership as they give their final musical offering for the summer. You’ll have the opportunity to sing in the Family Choir again next summer, so watch this space for details next spring.  Meanwhile, please pray and ask the Lord if this is your year to be part of the Geneva Choir. Music literacy and perfect attendance are not required, but a sense of humor is certainly helpful. Singers of all voice types and levels of experience are needed.  Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, September 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Choir Room.

More about the Music: Below is an excerpt from “Glory to God: A Companion” about this morning’s middle hymn, “God of the Sparrow”: “The author wrote this text on October 27, 1983, at the request of Concordia Lutheran Church of Kirkwood, Missouri, for the celebration of their 110th anniversary. As he notes in his comments about it, he regarded this invitation as ‘an opportunity to compose a hymn text [exploring] why and how God’s creatures (and children) are to serve Him.’ He further indicates that he has incorporated into this text reference to 1 John 4:7-12, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, and Psalm 136. Attentive readers of this text will be able to identify numerous other scriptural allusions.” For more tidbits about our music and hymn texts, visit a church copy of “Glory to God: A Companion” by Reverend Carl P. Daw, Jr. M.A., M.Div., Ph.D in our church library, or look through the copy on the piano at the front of the sanctuary after worship.

Traveling this Summer? Take a First Presby “Greeting Card” with you to drop into the offering plate of the church you visit on vacation. You will find these wallet-size blue cards inside the Friendship Pads, and on the “Bulletin” bulletin board in the hallway. Then bring home a worship bulletin, leave it in the church office (be sure to include your name!), and we’ll “map” you on the bulletin board in the hallway. Soon we’ll be connected through worship to brothers and sisters all over the world!

Centsability Offering will be received next Sunday, July 23.

Tasty Tuesday – Summer 2017!  Tasty Tuesday  is Tuesday, July 18, at 5:30 p.m. This is a multi-generational event and all congregation members are encouraged to get involved by way of preparing or purchasing food, serving, cleanup, or just by coming to enjoy dinner and fellowship with our brothers and sisters of the community.

This Week’s Food Pantry Needs: Cereal

Lay Academy Poetry Sharing Time continues on Wednesdays through August, from 5:30-7:00p.m. in  Room 203, Activities Building.  Come and join our exploration of spiritual experience using your own words or those of others. Jesus urges us all to get deeply involved in what it means to love one another, as he has first loved us all.  He uses poetry himself many times to draw our attention to our individual and group capacities to laugh, to cry, to compete, to relax, to rejoice, to create our own insights as we are moved by the Spirit we cultivate deep within our hearts, souls, minds, and bodies. And he urges us to share whatever we discover with each other, with our neighbors.  Bring a friend or neighbor with you. Refreshments. For more information, please call the Church Office, 304-343-8961.

Presbyterian Coffee Project: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, raisins, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and the week days during church business hours.

Walking Community! Join us for a weekly walk on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. We meet in the parking lot by the activities building for a one hour walk and time of fellowship. If the weather is good we walk outside, and if the weather is not so good, we walk in the Activities Building. This is a great way to jump start your week with some exercise and time for reflection. But we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever. Micah 4:5.

Live on the Levee Tailgate: Please join us for a tailgate in the church parking lot prior to Live on the Levee on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month and will be held this Friday, July 21. Food will be served around 5:45 p.m. Fellowship & Recreation will provide hot dogs, chips, cookies, water and lemonade. If you want to bring anything to throw on the grill or share, please do so. This is a tailgate, so bring a chair and join us. We will have a corn hole set and ladder ball for activities.
