Many ways to support our ministries: In addition to traditional cash and checks in the offering plate, you can give on our website firstpresby.com via your computer or smart phone, through our mobile app “Church Life” (you must first set up a user profile on our website to use the Church Life app.) or by texting 73256 and typing “firstpresby” in the message line. Use the QE code card in your pew rack to go directly to our giving page. God loves a Cheerful Giver.

Manna Meal Sandwich Making: The Elementary School children will make 200 sandwiches next Sunday, January 8, and deliver to Manna Meal. Meet in the chapel at 9:15 a.m.

Presbyterian Coffee Project: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, raisins, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and during the week during church business hours.

More about the music: Below is an excerpt from Glory to God: A Companion about this morning’s middle hymn, “Jesus Entered Egypt”: “This text was written as an entry in a 2007 search for new Epiphany texts sponsored by the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada.  It is one of the few hymns dealing with an event in Jesus’ life that has received little attention, the flight into Egypt in order to avoid the killing of young male children in Bethlehem, as ordered by King Herod. In every stanza, the first half describes Jesus in terms that demonstrate his identification with outsiders, then the second half asks a related question. The first stanza identifies Jesus as “this refugee,” while the third stanza describes the “wandering poor” who search for “a refuge.”  This distance between “refugee” and “refuge” describes the vast area of life where Christians are called to be aware of those whom Jesus called “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40). For more tidbits about our music and hymn texts, visit a church copy of Glory to God: A Companion by Reverend Carl P. Daw, Jr. M.A., M.Div., Ph.D in our church library, or look through the copy on the piano at the front of the sanctuary after worship.
