Children’s Bible Study: Following Time with Young Disciples and the Passing of the Peace, all children in grades 1-5 are invited to join us for Bible Study in room E-113. Janet Chambers will walk the children to their classroom. If this is your child’s first time visiting Children’s Bible Study, please accompany them to the room so that you can sign them in and get acquainted with our teachers.

Thanks to our child care volunteers in our nursery, toddler and preschool rooms. All child care rooms are equipped with live video feeds of the worship service. If you love children and babies, call the church office, (304)343-8961, to volunteer in this special ministry.

Local Mission Grant Applications: Through your very generous pledge and plate offerings, we are able to fund many local mission outreach grant requests each year.  First Presby has a very long and rich history of supporting local non-profit agencies/organizations that work to promote a better quality of life for those in need in our community. The grant process is such that local/state agencies submit their application to First Presby’s Mission Division.  A subcommittee of the Mission Division reviews the grants following a best practices set of guidelines and makes a recommendation to Session regarding funding. If you know of or have an association with a 501c3 organization that would qualify to submit a grant application, please make them aware of this opportunity. The grant applications for 2017 are available in the church hallway on the information table.  All applications are due on or before September 30, 2016.  Please contact Sue Webster if you have any questions. Thank you.

Flood Relief Opportunities to Serve Now:  We are looking for a small work crew, male or female, to form up to provide assistance with home rebuilding projects for flood victims through varied jobs such as sheet rock taping, closet building or cabinet installation, painting, and more.  This type of work can be done during the week and will be prearranged with the homeowner.  Our church has been assisting a young family that is working hard to get back into their home.  The husband works during the day and only has nights and weekends to try to rebuild his home.  Any help we can provide during the week would be a tremendous help.  We are planning to have a larger work party to help this family in October, details to come.  Please contact Andy Ceperley to get involved in this very important and necessary work!

As you pray, please remember: Mary Cline; Willa Nelson, friend of Marty Martin; Richard Ansinelli, friend of Nancy Winefordner; Kathleen Lordan, friend of Steve Slack; Heather Crist; Juanita Daniels, sister of Claude Churchwell; Giny Fizer Wall, neice of Kay Propst; Richard Arnold, nephew of Tyson Hope; Bob Webb, brother of Richard Lamb; Charity Pennington, friend of Les Hawkins; Carol Lair, sister of Kathy Crotty; Jeff Bryant; John Gunno, per Sandy Zando; Lynn Exley, friend of the McCoys; Nick Knox; Earle and Barbara Brown; Barbara Morton; Bob Moser, brother-in-law of Bob Daley; Isaiah Carte, nephew of Curt and Kay Marble; Becky Smith; Terry Richardson; Susan Dunn; Homer Lambert, friend of Jeff Harlow; Brenda Kuhl, friend of Claude Churchwell; Amy Smith; Susan Slater, friend of Claude Churchwell; Logan Forbis, friend of Mary Odin; Colleen Kimball, sister of Jackie Lilly; Jack Gastineau; Chuan Rong Tsao, brother-in-law of Howard Doumaux.

Presbyterian Coffee Project: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, raisins, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and during the week during church business hours.

A Note of Thanks Regarding our Donated Sheet Sets:  To give you an update, we have given away the box springs and mattresses that were donated for flood victims.  There were a total of 71 Double and 8 King beds given out.  The First Presbyterian Church of Charleston supplied new bedding for each bed and some extras, along with some pillows.  Every individual that received one of these have been very appreciative.  Thanks to everyone that was involved in this act of kindness.  God Bless, Darrell.  In GOD We Trust!

FAITH IN ACTION VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION SCHEDULED:  Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley (FIAGKV) is a local nonprofit dedicated to helping seniors in Kanawha and Putnam counties sustain their independence and remain in their own homes as long as possible. They do this by providing transportation to medical appointments or the grocery store, running errands, making telephone reassurance calls or friendly visits, and more. They are a 100% volunteer driven organization, striving to make a difference neighbor to neighbor. As an all-volunteer service organization, FIAGKV is always striving to grow its base of people willing to reach out to help, neighbor to neighbor. FIAGKV volunteers have the flexibility to select assignments that fit their schedules and interests. Whether they have two hours a week or two hours a month to offer, our volunteers have the opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on the lives of others every time they participate.  All    FIAGKV volunteers are required to attend one Orientation session prior to serving. First Presby is hosting a Volunteer Orientation Training on Thursday, September 29th, from 6 – 7:30 pm in the Activities Building Room 203. This session are free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.  For more information, call 304-881-7253, or email info@faithinactiongkv.com or visit www.faithinactiongkv.com.

Sojourner’s Class continues to study “Jesus and His Jewish Influences” this Sunday at 9:15 a.m., Room 411 of the Education Bldg.  Dr. Jodi Magness gives her ninth lecture on the Maccabean Revolution in 165 BC and the restoration of the Jerusalem temple after the Abomination of Desolation referred to in the Book of Daniel as well as in the New Testament Gospels.  The cleansing and restoration of the Jewish temple gave birth to the Jewish holiday known as Hanukkah, or the celebration of religious freedom after alien persecution by the Gentiles who occupied Judea after the rule of Alexander the Great.  Everyone is invited and welcome to learn and enjoy these lively discussions on Rally Day Sunday.

Church Family Style Dinner: Wednesday night dinner is here! Please make reservations by Monday, September 12, at 4 p.m. by contacting the church office, 304-343-8961.
