The Preschool Program begins registration for Weekday Preschool today, for classes beginning in August, 2016.  Registration is open to Church members only, and goes to Wednesday, February 24th, at which time, we will open class enrollment to other re-enrolling students and their siblings.

  • On Monday, February 29th, the pre-registration process will be open to the community.  Our Church offers preschool education classes for children ages one through five during the week.  Brochures are available in the information hall or the Preschool office.
  • If you know of a child who would benefit from preschool weekday classes, please encourage their parents to stop by the information table or the Preschool office for more information.  Also, inquiries can be made by e-mail (preschool@firstpresby.com) or by phone 304-343-8961 ext. 128.

Lay Academy continues to study “The Spiritual Brain: Science and Religious Experience,” today from 5:30 p.m., Room 201 in the Activity Building. Dr. Andrew Newberg presents lecture three, “Brain Function and Religion.”  How does the Anatomy of our brain work to produce our conscious experience, especially Religion and Spirituality?  Everyone welcome. Come and bring a friend or neighbor.

Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop: March 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Members of First Presby are invited to attend free of charge as a thank you for hosting the workshop. However, it is still important to pre-register so that we have plenty of materials and refreshments on the day of the workshop. Please contact Bonnie Brothers, 304-342-8034, bonnieleehoward@gmail.com or Laura Ceperley, 304-389-3562, lceperley@yahoo.com. There will be  a table in the hallway before and after the  worship service today to pre-register or you may call the church office to register at 304-343-8961. Learn how to care for people who are grieving and how to reach out to others in a distinctively Christian way. If you think you may be interested in becoming a Stephen Minister attending the workshop is a great way to learn more.

The Cents-Ability Offering is received next Sunday, February 28: During these frigid days and the cold months of winter, our thoughts turn to those who are homeless.  We cringe when we see a homeless person on a cold snowy night and pray that they have somewhere to go for shelter.  We also hope that the person has a way of getting a warm meal, but the truth is that many homeless people live on cans of cold food.  Did you know that the Covenant House Food Pantry provides a can opener to people who are homeless and have no way of opening a can of food.  Cents-Ability originated in 1976 as “Two-Cents-A-Meal,” a project begun by Presbyterian Women to involve individuals and families in a corporate response to world hunger. Cents-Ability is a small first step in the battle against hunger and poverty. Together we can help local organizations help those who need it the most.

Food Pantry Needs: Spaghetti and Pasta Sauce

Bad Weather Policy For Church Activities: If Kanawha County Schools are closed due to weather, all meetings and activities in the church are cancelled. If public schools close early due to weather, all meetings and activities in the church are cancelled for that evening.  Please do not come out if it puts you at risk for injury. Worship Services will always be held!

Kroger Plus Card Shopper? The Kroger Company will make a contribution to First Presby each time you use your Kroger Plus card, when you designate the church as your choice of charity. If you need help, stop by the church office during the week, with your Kroger Plus Card and we will be happy to register it for you. Equal Exchange Products: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, raisins, trail mix, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and during the week during church business hours.

On The Green: Even though we seem to be having an endless winter, spring is coming and before you know it we will be “On The Green” after church with our friends.  If you can help prepare finger foods and serve just one Sunday during the summer, please email Kay Propst at kayp@firstpresby.com to volunteer.
