Congratulations to Penny and Jerry Swan on the birth of their granddaughter, Finley Seaton McGuire. Finley was born in Sacramento, CA on May 7, 2016 to Kara and Matt McGuire. She is home with mom, dad and big brother, Hudson.

Sympathy of the congregation is extended to the family of Sarah Lyons who died on May 28.

This Sunday morning we welcome our Bells and Bars Music Academy students to worship leadership. The group worked together all week to learn music for chimes, bells, Orff instruments, and tubano drums. At the end of the week, each student tie-dyed his or her own shirt and handbell gloves to wear this Sunday. We thank Heather Curtis, daughter of Ellen Golden and granddaughter of Dick Golden, for designing our shirt logo, and we thank Chip Urling for printing our shirts for us each year. This year’s Music Academy students are Emma Berger, Aidan Daugherty, Devlin Daugherty, Kiera Daugherty, Ellie Hoblitzell, Sam Keller, James Odin, Ruth Odin, Marshall Snider, Sarah Snider, and Will Snider.

Strategic Planning Meeting: You are invited to a gathering on Sunday, June 12 after worship in the dining room. Coffee and tea will be available along with the goodies brought for “On the Green”. Reservations are not needed. This is an opportunity to share ideas related to the recent church-wide survey. Child care will be available. Please let us know by June 8, if you will need child care by phoning the church office at (304)343-8961. We hope you can join us as we prepare for our future ministry together.

“On the Green” Family Sign-ups: We are trying something new for our “Fellowship on the Green” after worship this summer. Our usual small groups–classes and divisions–will cover fewer Sundays for bringing refreshments. This will allow 2 or 3 families to participate together on a Sunday of their choice. Sign up on the poster in the hall or call the office to share being the hosts of “On the Green” this summer. Instructions are included. Open Sundays are June 19 & 26, July 3 & 17, August 28 and September 4 & 11. Please take advantage of this new opportunity to share in the hospitality of First Presby this summer. On June 12, the “On the Green” will be held in the dining room to correspond and collaborate with the Strategic Planning Meeting.

This week’s Food Pantry needs: SPAGHETTI AND CANNED SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Second Hour Bible Study: After Time with Young Disciples and the Passing of the Peace, all children in grades 1-5 are invited to join us for Bible Study in room E-113. Look for Janet Chambers. She will walk the children to their classroom. If this is your child’s first time visiting Second Hour Bible Study, please accompany them to the room so that you can sign them in and get acquainted with our teachers.

Youth: During the worship service the youth are invited to sit with director Payne Warner in the rear gallery. Youth Group will continue to meet at 6 p.m. on Sunday evenings and at 5 p.m. on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.

Thanks to Our Child Care Volunteers in our nursery, toddler and preschool rooms. All child care rooms are equipped with live video feeds of the worship service. Do you love children and babies? Call the church office, (304)343-8961, to volunteer in this special ministry.

Electronic Giving: Did you know that we can easily set up a recurring gift to the church directly from your checking or savings account? This can easily be done on our church website. Also, you can offer your financial gift to God electronically by scanning the QR code on the laminated card in the pew racks. These cards can also be placed in the offering plate as a sign of your faith and trust in God, if you already give electronically through your checking account or credit card.

Are You a Kroger Community Rewards Customer? Kroger Plus Card Shopper? The Kroger Company will make a contribution to First Presby each time you use your Kroger Plus card, when you designate the church as your choice of charity. Work and Build Day- Save the Date- June 18: Dust off your hammers and saws and come help those in need of basic home repairs. We will partner with WV Ministry of Advocacy and Workcamps, Inc, (WVMAW) for our first workday this year on Saturday, June 18, to do some hands-on work. The mission of WVMAW is: “to offer the opportunity for discipleship by partnering with those in need, whose lives have been devastated by natural disasters or by the disaster of poverty in areas of West Virginia. Work hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (approx.). To learn more or volunteer please contact Sue Webster at sue@firstpresby.com <mailto:sue@firstpresby.com> or 304-343-8961, Extension 139.

Sing in the Family Choir next Sunday, June 12! Come to the Choir Room Sunday morning, June 12, at 9:30 a.m. to learn the anthem for 10:30 a.m. worship. We’ll be a different choir on each Family Choir Sunday, determined by the people who are in town each time we sing. Other Family Choir Sundays this summer will be June 26, July 10, and August 7. All ages are welcome.

Traveling this summer? Keep in touch with your church family several ways. You can participate in Sunday worship – the service is broadcast on the WCHS 580AM radio website at 11 a.m. Check out our website, <http://firstpresby.com/> to read the weekly announcements and the bulletin, download past sermons to listen at your convenience. You can log in to the website as a member and set up a recurring gift directly from your checking account or credit card to continue supporting your church ministries while away. Members can also find contact info for other church family members in the member portal. Find us on facebook at www.facebook.com/FirstPresbyCharleston <http://www.facebook.com/FirstPresbyCharleston> to see photos of the latest happenings. Stay in touch this summer- we’ll miss you when you’re not here!

Knitting and Crocheting: All are welcome to join our knitting/crocheting group one or both of our meetings in June on Tuesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. AND Tuesday, June 21, at 10 a.m. Since the church is not open in the summer after business hours we will meet at Laura Ceperley’s house on June 7. Please let her know if you plan to attend. The meeting on June 21 will be in room E-406 of the education building as usual. Call if you need help or inspiration, Laura Ceperley, 304-389-3562, lceperley@yahoo.com.

Vacationing? Look for the big map on the bulletin board in the hallway. Whenever you travel, bring home a bulletin from the churches you visit, and we’ll “map” you on the board. By the end of the summer, our board will be full, and we’ll be connected to brothers and sisters all over the world!

Are you receiving the weekly announcements in your e-mail? If not, call the church office to update your e-mail address. In addition to the once a week announcement sheet we will e-mail you only with very special or late-breaking news. We won’t “spam” your inbox. We promise.

Presbyterian Coffee Project: Coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolates, and nuts continue to be available for purchase after worship and during the week during church business hours.

“Tasty Tuesday”, June 14: Plan to be a part of First Presby’s first summertime community fellowship dinner on Tuesday, June 14! This is the fifth summer in a row that we will have the wonderful opportunity to provide a warm meal for those in our community who may be hungry. What a blessing it has been each year as our congregation has come together to enjoy fun and fellowship as we gather in the kitchen to prepare and serve meals. We will be grilling up and serving hot dogs for our first Tasty Tuesday. Everyone in the congregation is encouraged to participate in this outreach ministry by way of 1) bringing potato salad, baked beans (store bought or canned is fine), large bags of potato chips or dessert to add to the meal – please bring your food donations to the front office during the week or directly to the large kitchen on the day of the event. 2). Come out to help set up, serve or clean up. 3) Come to enjoy a wonderful meal and show hospitality to our community neighbors and friends. Serving will be from 5:30 – 6:30p.m., but people are needed before and after to prepare and clean-up. Thank you to all who, for the last 4 years have worked to make this event a GREAT success – Let’ do it again this year!

Thirsty? We don’t want you to stay thirsty, Presby Friends. A new cold drink machine is now located in the back of the Cablish Room (the parlor located near the chapel off the main hall.) Minute-Maid lemonade, Fuze sweet tea, Dasani water, Powerade, Coke and Diet Coke are available in 20 oz. bottles for $1.25. Additionally, 12 oz. cans of Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite are available in the machine upstairs in the Choir Room for 75¢.
