First Presby Weekly News December 27, 2015

Sunday Worship at 10:30 a.m.

304-343-8961

December 28 – January 1, 2015   Church Office and Buildings Are Closed.

Next Week’s Sermon : ”It Is Time To Shine ”, by Jim Roberts.

Sympathy of the congregation is extended to Kathy Lynch on the death of her uncle, Whitney Myers, who died December 15.

Wee People Report: The shepherds and sheep have spread out to the fields (beyond the sanctuary) with their sheep to tell the good news of Jesus’ birth!

No Clothing Donations: The Covenant House has temporarily suspended collection of any clothing for the clothing pantry at St. Marks.  Please take your donations to either the Salvation Army or Goodwill.

The IRA direct distribution rollover was made retroactive for 2015 and permanent for the future when the president signed the legislation last week. Taxpayers age 70 ½ may transfer directly from an IRA to the church and have the gift count toward their Required Minimum Distribution. The donor DOES NOT pay income tax on this gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so a donor benefits even if they don’t itemize their deductions. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

Announcing An All New FIRSTPRESBY.COM: Our church website is a brand new interactive site. In addition to events, calendars, sermons, you are now able to log-in to a member site.  Here you can contact other members in your classes or small groups, update your information, view the calendar, and you can set-up on-line giving to the church. Check it out today!

December Year-end Giving: If you have a balance on your 2015 pledge, please try to make your gift before the end of December. Refer to your December newsletter for IRS rules on when we receipt gifts for tax purposes. Gifts of securities are receipted when they are received in the church brokerage account, not when they are transferred out of your account, and we won’t receive the proceeds for at least 3 business days after the sale of the shares. Thank you for your support.

Are you a Kroger Plus Card Shopper? Kroger will make a contribution to First Presby each time you use your card when you designate the church as your choice of charities. To enroll your card go to www.kroger.com/communityrewards and select First Presby as your church.  If you need help in registering your card, call or stop by the church office with your Kroger card and we will be happy to register it for you!

Food Pantry Needs:   Cereal and Canned Meats

Youth will not meet during the holidays.  Youth meetings will start again after the first of the year.

Reminder: If you have placed flowers in the sanctuary in honor or memory of loved ones during 2014, please be sure to make your payment payable to First Presbyterian church and deliver or mail to the church office by December 31, 2015.

Passing The Peace – The cold and flu season is in full swing, please be aware that friends with depressed immune systems may welcome a greeting of a warm smile, a pat on the shoulder, etc., rather than a handshake. Please be attentive as you share the loving hospitality of Christ’s peace with each other.

LOGOS begins the winter/spring semester on Wednesday, January 6, 5:00 p.m.  Participation in LOGOS is a gift that lasts forever.  Registration forms are available on the hall table for children and youth, ages 4 through high school; or email Janet Chambers @ janet@firstpresby.com.

BAD WEATHER POLICY FOR CHURCH ACTIVITIES: If Kanawha County Schools are closed due to weather, all meetings and activities in the church are cancelled. If public schools close early due to weather, all meetings and activities in the church are cancelled for that evening.  Please do not come out if it puts you at risk for injury. Worship Services will always be held!

Thanks to Our Child Care Volunteers today in our nursery, toddler and preschool rooms. All child care rooms are equipped with live video feeds of the worship service. Do you love children and babies? Call the church office,304-343-8961, to volunteer in this special ministry.

Act of Faith: We are reminded that all we have comes from God.  Please remember to name the First Presbyterian Church as a beneficiary of your will, your retirement plan or of a life insurance policy in order that we may carry out God’s wishes and continue his work in our community and in the world.

Offering Envelopes for those who requested them can be picked up on Sunday mornings on the table near the church office.  They can also be picked up in the office during regular church office hours. Call the church office if you have questions or wish to get a box.
