Sunday Worship at 10:30 a.m.

304-343-8961

First Sunday in Advent

Sympathy of the Congregation is extended to the family of Dell Binford, Shepherds Center, on his death November 22.

Next Week’s Sermon  is “A SEASON OF DOUBLE VISION,”  by Jim Roberts.

Manna Meal Sandwich Making:   Covenant Kids and adult helpers will make 200 sandwiches, during the Sunday School Hour next Sunday for Manna Meal.  Meet in the chapel at 9:15 a.m.

Wee People Report: The first of the Wee People have arrived in our sanctuary!  Today Mary and Joseph begin their journey to Bethlehem from Nazareth.  Augustus, emperor of Rome, has ordered a numbering (or census) of everyone in his empire.  Every Jewish man has to report to his hometown to have his name recorded in order to collect taxes.  Joseph and Mary, who is pregnant, must make the journey to Bethlehem, Joseph’s hometown.  Watch each week as the story unfolds.

The Preschool Weekday School children cordially invite you to their Christmas Worship service in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, December 16 at 12:10 p.m. Come and enjoy wonderful sounds of the season from the children of the Preschool.

Cents-Ability Offering is Received Today: Rally Day, Worship Service, Church Wide Picnic, Logos and Family Supper, Sunday School Classes – these are some high points of our life together as a church family.  Cents-Ability is a small way we can acknowledge our membership in the family of mankind as we share our abundance with our brothers and sisters in the broader community.  Please help by placing your CentsAbility Offering in the plates as they are passed today.

Lay Academy: The Lay Academy will not meet on Sunday afternoon/evenings during Advent/Christmas Seasons.  Watch for an announcement of new schedule early in the new year.

Passing the Peace:  As cold and flu season approaches, please be aware that friends with depressed immune systems may welcome a greeting of a warm smile, a pat on the shoulder, etc., rather than a hand-shake. Please be attentive as you share the loving hospitality of Christ’s peace with each other.

Hope Village is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and after worship on Sundays through December 19. You will find items from many countries in the Village and the artisans receive a fair and just wage for their work.

As We Enjoy Our Thanksgiving Season, we keep in mind that all we have and all we are thankful for comes to us as a gift from God. We joyfully and with gratitude return to God his blessings by giving to support First Presby’s ministries. Please be generous in your giving, and your pledging for next year.  The Stewardship Division.

Christmas Memorials:  Envelopes are in the pew racks for contributions to our Worship Memorial Fund in honor or memory of loved ones. Names will be printed in a special insert for the Christmas worship bulletins. Deadline is December 13. These Christmas Memorials are given to enrich worship at the church.

Food Pantry Needs: Spaghetti Noodles & Spaghetti Sauce

Reminder: If you have placed flowers in the sanctuary in honor or memory of loved ones during 2015, please be sure to make your payment payable to First Presbyterian church and deliver or mail to the church office by December 31, 2015.

Youth: No official meetings this week but keep your eye on texts and email to know if we are doing something like bowling or a movie. We will meet again officially starting on December 6.

Have you used one of our listening devices in worship this year? We are missing four of them and they cost $109 each to replace. Please check your cars, pockets, purses or other places one may be hiding. Thank you.

Equal Exchange Project: Linda Elliott is preparing individual or corporate gift baskets for the holiday seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Equal Exchange has 100% organic fairly traded products including 14 flavors of drip/whole bean and K Cup coffees in various sizes (regular and decaf), 12 flavors of chocolate bars (two for diabetics), 15 flavors of teas (regular and decaf), honey, strawberry jam, orange marmalade, nuts, raisins, trail mix and 3 kinds of cocoa. Your selected items will be placed in a nice basket, wrapped in cellophane and topped off with a beautiful bow. The Presbyterian Coffee Project is a 15 year old on-going mission.  Sales guarantee small farmers around the world a fair price for their products and is indeed a life line for the farmer and family. The project is thankful for your patronage over the years.  You can reach Linda at 304-344-2075 or email: koffeelade@gmail.com.
