The Lay Academy of Religion is a series of class/courses designed for non-clergy. It offers opportunities to study the human condition in the areas of religion, ethics, art and science. Dr. Robert “Bob” G. Newman, Professor of Religion Emeritus, University of Charleston, coordinates the classes. Bob and members of the Lay Academy Committee choose a yearly focus. A scholar himself, Bob acts as instructor and moderator when there are panel discussions. All of the classes are free and open to everyone. Call Bob Newman, 304-345-0225, for more information.
Watch for announcements about upcoming events.
ALL LAY ACADEMY PROGRAMS AND COURSES ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
The Lay Academy is open to everyone. The only expectation is that you be curious, open-minded and willing to study. The
study sessions are planned to help every serious lay person, not primarily clergy or other church professionals, to grow in
knowledge and faith, and to become better equipped to serve and lead as God gives us gifts and calls us to discipleship. We welcome all adults and youth. Invite your friends and neighbors, of any faith or of no faith, as we seek to be more ecumenical. For more information contact the church office at 304-343-8961.
