Kanawha Pastoral Counseling Center

The Kanawha Pastoral Counseling Center (KPCC) provides counseling to individual adults, children, couples, families and groups at an affordable cost. KPCC is a place of hope and healing for everyone. For more information, visit the web site at www.kpcc.com or contact us at 304/346-9689.

Board of Deacons

In the New Testament Church, deacons were elected and ordained to serve those in need in the distribution of food. At First Presby, Deacons are elected by the Congregation each year to continue that work by leading the congregation in the work of pastoral care and support of all who are in need. Below are some of the ways the Deacons work throughout the congregation. If you would like to help, the office at firstpresby@firstpresby.com or 343-8961.

The In Touch Team makes visits and special contacts with persons who are homebound, in nursing homes, and in other unique circumstances. The Care ‘n Casserole team makes and delivers food for those experiencing grief and death in their families or during times of illness, a new birth or other special circumstances.

Alzheimer’s Disease Support Group — a chapter of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Assoc., Inc. Call 343-2717.

Rebuilding is a repeating eight-week study/support series for those going through divorce. It is open to the community and all are invited.

Rebuilding Group
The Kanawha Pastoral Counseling Center announces the start of a new Rebuilding Group. Rebuilding is for individuals who are dealing with the stress of being in some stage of separation or divorce. The group meets on Mondays from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.  It meets for 8 weeks at First Presbyterian Church, Charleston, in Ruffner Room.  There is no charge.  Call or email us to find out when the next class will be.

Widow’s Group and Other Grief Recovery Groups are formed and meet periodically to assist and support grieving persons who have lost a loved one.

Stephen Ministry is special one-on-one pastoral care for persons with special needs and situations. Stephen Ministers, trained as good listeners, are ready to put their care into action.

Prayer Chains: Each week, and in emergencies, we spread the word by phone to pray for persons in need. Call the church office to join or to share a prayer need. Parish Nurses do not treat illness, but use blood pressure, other testing, and consultation to prevent illness as much as possible. They are available to answer questions about illness or injury, to assist persons home from the hospital or with ongoing conditions to understand their situations.

Another group offers small receptions following funerals or memorial services. Another group offers transportation to appointments, the grocery and the like for persons unable to get out on their own.
